As some of you know, our 10 year old son Ryan suffers from a Learning Disability that inhibits his ability to read. Sadly, Ryan’s needs were no longer met through traditional reading interventions. We found a program called the Arrowsmith Program that helps Ryan restructure his brain so that he is not only able to learn, but will be able to retain the information he learns. Arrowsmith is not a cure for Learning Disabilities, but it is more than simply strategies to cope. The program enables Ryan to take in, store and use information effectively.

As a full-time private program, Arrowsmith is costly and we have no choice but to pay for it out of pocket. Consequently, we are hosting an Amazing Race style Urban Adventure called Ryan’s Amazing Race for Learning. We are trying to raise funds to help supplement the cost of Ryan’s alternative education program. Moving forward, we would like to continue this tradition and raise funds for other students requiring financial assistance at Arrowsmith. We feel that ALL children have a right to be educated. Some just need to go about it a little differently than others.

What is involved in the Race?   Our event is loosely based on the Amazing Race Reality TV show. Participants are given clues, and you must drive to different locations around Durham region and perform different tasks. Tasks can include roadblocks and detours, just like in the TV show. Upon successful completion of a task, you will be given your next clue. We will provide maps and directions to all the locations and include any money needed for particular legs of the race. I can't give away too many details but you won't have to eat anything too gross or fly in any planes. You may have to go on a scavenger hunt, talk to strangers, or get a little silly but that's about the extent of things. If you have strong navigational skills and quick wit you will be just fine. We will provide everything you need for a great day and will provide all the details you need as we finalize the race course. It's all in good fun but remember to register early...  as the last team to arrive...MAY be eliminated! (Or not able to Race at all)
The Race starts in...
